Case Study – Wilkin & Sons Ltd
Wilkin & Sons Ltd, famously known by its brand name “Tiptree,” is a renowned British manufacturer of preserves, marmalades and more. Located in Tiptree, Essex, the Wilkin family began making preserves in 1885 and has built the company into a globally recognised brand.
Having previously experienced the reliability of our high speed roller shutter doors, Wilkin & Sons confidently chose us to deliver the ideal solution for its facility.
Project Brief
Wilkin & Sons needed to replace an existing factory door due to its age and condition. This would be key in providing smoother access, safer conditions and protection from insects. As the door has an external entrance, creating a barrier against insects was a key part of the brief.
Our Solution: Rapid Roll Doors
For this project, we specified the AUTO-FULL rapid roll door. In addition to being suitable for the opening size of the existing door entrance, its fast action would ensure easy access to the facility while providing a barrier to insects.
The door is also equipped with a zip curtain, allowing for easy repair following impact damage. This reduces downtime during which insects can enter the building. We also encouraged Wilkin & Sons to trial the exclusive GS Doors blu. drive unit and app, which would enable easier access to the unit.
During the project, we faced a challenge of removing the heavy existing door and installing the AUTO-FULL within a wooden canopy walkway. To overcome the problem, the canopy needed to be cut back to allow the new door to be installed safely and without hitches.
The Result
Crucially, Wilkin and Sons’ facility now has better protection from insects trying to enter from outside thanks to the door’s fast action and repairability. The rapid roll door also represents an upgrade from the original door, ensuring efficient access and reliability in a high-traffic zone.
Furthermore, Wilkin & Sons has access to a range of replacement spare parts for the door, ensuring any maintenance can be carried out quickly with minimal downtime.
